CANNES 2008

EW has a photo gallery where they cover most of the noteworthy pictures at this year’s CANNES FILM FESTIVAL.

Included are: INDIANA JONES & THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (of course…), ADORATION (the latest from ATOM EGOYAN, starring SCOTT SPEEDMAN), SURVEILLANCE (the second film from JENNIFER CHAMBERS LYNCH – David’s daughter – with BILL PULLMAN and JULIA ORMOND), THE CHANGELING (directed by Clint Eastwood, featuring ANGELINA JOLIE, AMY RYAN and JOHN MALKOVICH) and VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA (WOODY ALLEN’S new offering, with SCARLETT JOHANSSON and JAVIER BARDEM along for the ride).

did i see a mention of a movie with a female actor with the intials g.p. in it… ??? have fun m. ;)

oh and i wonder how le silence de lorna well compare with gegen die wand ??

    m. you’ve been immeshed in the movie stuff passionately for awhile. how does this cannes seem to line up with the last few ???

  4. Yeah, there appears to be a Gwyneth film in there, glim. But I don’t make the rules.

Truthfully, I put the Cannes thing up because I thought there would be lots of people that would be interested. I don’t pay that much attention to Cannes until the winners are announced. There are always a few films that I’m interested in. But the winners quite often come from obscure European films that I’m never going to see. There’s a lot of product that never will make it stateside and even if some of it did I likely wouldn’t attend in any case.

The new WOODY ALLEN film has an interesting cast. But, even though he’s my all time favourite director, he hasn’t made a film I’ve genuinely liked (never mind LOVED) in quite a while. But we’ll see.

In spite of all that I’d love to go to Cannes one day. I think being there would be far more exciting than being home reading about it…

  5. There’s a trailer for VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA – http://movies.aol.com/movie/vicky-cristina-barcelona/32858/video/trailer-no-1/2122868

    It’s all kissing and sex.

……and then Penelope Cruz shoots a gun.

    I’m there! (hope it’s good)

  6. Ari, thanks so much for stopping by. It’s lucky that I caught you. Your post was lumped in with the spam. But I fished you out and you were as good as new.

Yeah, it’s the third time I’ve seen that. Javier and Scarlett are so beautiful. You won’t ever hear me complaining about kissing and sex. I think this trailer is just flamethrower hot. Seeing as WOODY ALLEN is my favourite director, well, how could I refuse? I’ll be there with bells on.

Thanks, Ari. You are a peach indeed…

  7. It’s a very sexy trailer, indeed.

And Woody Allen is one of my top three American filmmakers. So I understand the love. Annie Hall, Manhattan, Husbands and Wives, Radio Days, Hannah and Her Sisters, etc. It’s amazing. I even like Shadows and Fog.

  8. Bless you, Ari. WOODY ALLEN fans – in particular – are always welcome at CP.

I share your grand affection for ANNIE HALL, HUSBANDS & WIVES, MANHATTAN and HANNAH & HER SISTERS…

Not too many true genuises around. But I genuinely think Mr. Allen is one.

Please visit as often as you like. Thank you again for the trailer.

great link! i’ve seen “vcb” and i’d say it’s just as sexy as the trailer makes it out to be! i have to say penelope cruz and javier bardem are red hot together (especially when he speaks spanish…drool).

last year’s palme d’or winner is out on dvd now, so you don’t need to be left out in the dark! it may be “obscure” and “european” but it’s available in hard copy, so it should be pretty easy to get now! good luck =D

  10. jenny, thanks so much for the visit AND the top of the line info. That was incredibly helpful.

SCARLETT and JAVIER are both so bloody gorgeous. Can’t wait to see them…together. Anticipating this with bated breath is the understatement of the newly minted century.

As Woody has been my all time favourite director since I gained a comprehension of filmmaking as an art, I will be at VCB on opening night. Some time in August stateside, I imagine.

Great that you stopped by. I sincerely hope that you’ll visit again.

    You’re amazing…

  11. jennynotjen Says:

i hate to be a killjoy, but to be honest, i was really upset with scarlett’s performance – she pretty much fizzled out in comparison to the others. anyway, i wrote a casual little review on my blog for your viewing pleasure, if you’re interested =D

  12. jenny, not to worry. I much prefer an honest, upfront assessment to pure BS.

SCARLETT is not exactly acknowledged as an exceptional actor across the board. I think she’s been excellent in a number of things and her work in THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL was impressive enough to me that she gets a CP hall pass for now.

But I do know that there are many people out there that simply aren’t as enamoured with her artistic talents as they are with her striking exterior.

So please stand by your opinion, honey. I dig people that have the courage of their convictions.

When I get a moment, I’ll go over to your site and check your review out.

Thank you so much for visiting again, jenny. Always great to have you here…
