MIKE MYERS’ NEW COMEDY: THE LOVE GURU
MIKE MYERS has a new movie set for release in June. It’s called THE LOVE GURU.
There is an entire YouTube page devoted to videos for the film. Some very funny stuff. It’s like he’s channeling PETER SELLERS.

Mike Myers films and Adam Sandler films are interchangeable to me. It’s basically the same movie over and over and over and over and over…
And you know how you’re allergic to Jennifer Garner? That’s how I feel about Jessica Alba. She’s unwatchable, and — the mark of any true actress — she believes that the box office is the most important part of the film…
“To me, box office is the most important thing. If the movie makes money, then I’m fine,” she says. “Struggling is not fun. Been there, done that.”

k, I feel the same way about Ms. Alba as you do. We have no difference of opinion there…

I agree as well. Alba is pretty, but that is it. When I first saw her in the TV series “Dark Angel” I knew she would make it big, but her career has amounted to nothing spectacular at all.
I have not watched the trailer fully, but there are a few online skits from the film, and it does not look THAT bad.

She’s an incredibly wooden actress.

I would like this to be like Peter Sellers, but it looks like Eddie Murphy.
Alba is spectacularly untalented. Myers can’t find a real funny partner?

I have a friend who worked in a high capacity on the production. She says Alba was a dim bulb who didn’t understand any of Myers’ humour. Which is no surprise. I just think it’s sad for real actors here that a blank slate like Alba is in demand for no good reason.

christian, my love, I haven’t seen the movie as of yet. I’m only responding to the limited information I have.
As to why Ms. Alba was cast in this, why is she cast in anything? Not to be overly philosophical, but…
Nicky, I know. Some of the stuff that I saw looked genuinely funny. I laughed out loud more than once. I don’t always do that…

Well, christian darling, it seems like every generation of filmgoers has their sex symbols. Sometimes these are people with great charisma and talent on top of all that and sometimes…NOT.
As a red blooded girl who’s deeply attracted to men, I’ve been very open about the women in the public eye that I think are beautiful and/or sexy. I don’t feel that Jessica Alba is either. Obviously you concur.
But, for whatever reason, she seems to register on a lot of peoples’ hot meters. This does not appear to be some manufactured ridiculousness. (Like the Gwyneth Paltrow thing, where she was pushed by the media to be a major star when I didn’t know anyone that could stand her or thought she was attractive.)
For whatever reason, there are any number of people that think Ms. Alba is incredibly gorgeous and sexy. Usually they’re young straight guys.
It’s completely incomprehensible to me. But there it is.
But, if she’s not particularly intelligent, that wouldn’t put off her fans. I think it would make them feel that she was even more accessible. If filmmakers think she’ll be a box office draw, then they’ll put her in films, throw the concept up against the wall and see if it sticks.
That’s the way the world works…
