STYLE TRANSFORMATION: BRUCE WILLIS 1973 – 2005
I’ve had a thing for BRUCE WILLIS for as long as I can remember. But let’s not kid ourselves.
He’s the quintessential guy’s guy. I can’t think of any celebrity offhand who cares LESS about style. But he was on the list. So I’m putting him up.
The major concession he’s made in terms of his appearance is letting himself go bald. Personally, I feel strongly that great hair on a man is one of the most attractive things going. (As long as it’s not too long and it’s healthy and well kept. On boys, my preference is for no longer than shoulder length AT THE MOST.)
I think he looked more appealing with some hair. But it’s his prerogative.
So, if I can’t discuss fashion in this particular instance, I’ll talk about other things Bruce related.
There was a quote attributed to him a very long time ago. Don’t know if he ever said it. But it sounded exactly like him. He was supposed to have made this remark when he was still hitched to DEMI MOORE.
“You know, I’ve been married a while. I have a wonderful wife and three daughters. We have maids and housekeepers. Even the dogs and cats are female… and I haven’t won an argument in 15 years.”
Hysterical….
I also have a real treat for you. Bruce has been a wildly successful actor for the past 20 odd years now. He has been in several terrific films. (The original DIE HARD is one of them.)
But he did the most mature, sensitive, skilled acting on the best project he ever had in his life: the 80s television show MOONLIGHTING. He and Cybill Shepherd starred as private investigators in a brilliant, jazzily written romp that had 40s style repartee and a lushly romanticized flow to it.
In the third season clip that you’re about to see (from the episode BLONDE ON BLONDE), Bruce’s character David finally comes to the realization that he’s in love with Maddie (Cybill). I think he may’ve been a little slow on the uptake. Regular viewers (even the people like me that saw it many years later in reruns) knew that from the second episode. It was that obvious.
I think you’ll find it incredibly funny whether you’ve ever viewed it or not. ROBERT WUHL is the goof in the cell. Glamourous blonde DONNA DIXON (Dan Aykroyd’s real life wife) complicates everything.

Going bald was the smartest career move he could make. Instead of hiding it ala Burt Reynolds, he embraced it and made it part of his look. I of course will never have to face that problem but…

You are (of course) perfection personified, my sweet boy.
I’m generally not that easily seduced, Mr. Divine.
But I’d happily drink your Koolaid any day of the week…

Now, now, sweetie…
Nicky darling, you’re supposed to pretend that went right over your head.
Every once in a while your fondness for the chosen few can not be denied…
Plus it’s early…

“I can’t think of any celebrity offhand who cares LESS about style.”
Haha, yeah that’s about right. He really is a guy’s guy. Something appealing about his smirk. He never annoys me in any of his roles, and I had fun at the ridiculous fourth installment of Die Hard last summer.

I’ve adored BRUCE for ages. He’s very talented and a great comedian.
I’ve always thought he was the bee’s knees….
