Believe me.

glimster, feel free to pass judgment on whatever you like.
Your opinion on what’s sexy (in terms of film) is just as valid as the next guy/girl. Who says? I DO – and my vote is the only one that cuts any ice around here.
James Spader. Um…ROWR.
He was SO beautiful back in the 80s when I was kicking the slats out of my crib. He really was the living end.
I’ve run across old interviews with him where people touched on his choice of…material. I’m a big fan of the gentleman. But he’s always been fairly unconventional and not afraid of admitting that. He’s fiercely intelligent and he has a really unique POV regarding many things.
Never saw SECRETARY. It’s been on TV a few times and I just can’t get into it. Seems rather weird and F’ed up to me. But I liked Cronenberg’s CRASH (despite its oddness) and I own SEX, LIES & VIDEOTAPE. I think it’s the height of brilliance. It’s totally hot as well.
James Spader married quite young and he stayed with his wife for YEARS. They got divorced some time this decade (I believe) and I understand he has a new girlfriend. I don’t keep up with what he does any more.
But he did have a good marriage (up until that point, I believe) that lasted a very long time. In between films, I heard that he apparently liked to take breaks and do ordinary work that was nonartistic. He was supposedly employed at a shoe store for a while. He said it was a way of keeping himself grounded.
Well, he’s on that TV show BOSTON LEGAL now. He’s won more than one EMMY for that and it’s been a tremendous success for him personally. I’m deliriously happy for him. He’s making great money. Seems like a wonderful guy.
He’s not doing those offbeat relationship films any more, glim. He either got all that out of his system or he hasn’t been able to find a suitable script.
But he’s doing exceptionally well. So I doubt that it’s keeping him up nights…
