THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS ACCESSORIES OF 2008

IN STYLE is in the process of doing their year end wrap up. They’re in the midst of discussing the most outrageous accessories celebrities wore in 2008.

I have all ready talked about Victoria Adams Beckham (aka Posh Spice) and her $6,000 PVC ANTONIO BERARDI boots with no heels, as well as Madonna’s CHANEL shoes that are shaped to resemble guns in my GLAMOROUS EXCESS fashion column last month.

To take a look, please go here

But, needless to say, those aren’t the looks I prefer…

I think NICOLE KIDMAN’S L’WREN SCOTT diamond necklace (all 1400 carats of it…), Pharrell Williams’ $67,000 custom made HERMES BIRKIN bag and Dita Von Teese’s top hat are the best things going out of this particular bunch.

  1. That necklace is OBSCENE.

  2. I’m with you, Miranda. Nicole’s necklace is easily the best of the bunch.

Posh Spice looks to me like she is made of molded plastic and nothing she does interests me. Heeless boots? Please. I’m anxious to check out your GLAMOROUS EXCESS post on those.

IMHO, boys should not carry Birkins.

SJP’s hat is weird, but it fits her Carrie Bradshaw vibe.

  3. Well, SJP always looks the same to me regardless.

    However…

My darling Pat, that’s not just any BIRKIN. It’s a $65,000 BIRKIN.

But yeah…I’m glad we’re on the same page regarding Nicole. We generally are anyway, right…?

Great minds think alike and all that…

  4. Hee hee.

But in a good way. Right, k…?

  5. It’s a beautiful necklace. Definitely not my style, but definitely beautiful.

Man, I would be so paranoid wearing that out.

  6. Yeah, I understand what you mean, k.

    But still…

If you’re that worried about it, then what you get out of it (the sensual pleasure that you derive from the enjoyment of your possessions) is totally destroyed.

I have heard of famous women walking around in public with fabulous jewels and security guards were watching them everywhere they went so that no one harassed them or ran off with their gorgeous stuff.

That’s ridiculous. That would be like living in a prison.

Then I’ve heard of people who made synthetic copies of their expensive jewels, wore the copies out in public and kept the real stuff in a safe.

I just couldn’t live like that.

If I were that worried about it, I just wouldn’t own those pieces. Bear in mind that I, as a middle class person, own a lot of things that LOOK very expensive. Most of it isn’t, though.

At the end of the day, you have to live…and live well. If something like that stands in your way, then you might as well NOT own it, you know?

    Too much bother…
