OSCAR winning actor HELEN MIRREN will make an appearance on a U.S. stage this fall in a production of JEAN RACINE’S tragedy PHEDRE.
The ROYAL NATIONAL THEATRE production will be put on at the SHAKESPEARE THEATER in Washington in September. The play will follow a three month run in LONDON, including a performance to be simulcast in movie theatres around the world in June.
DAME MIRREN, who will portray PHEDRE, made her reputation on British stages before winning the BEST ACTRESS ACADEMY AWARD two years ago for THE QUEEN.
The play also features DOMINIC COOPER.
MICHAEL KAHN, artistic director of the SHAKESPEARE THEATRE COMPANY, says the wife of British ambassador NIGEL SHEINWALD suggested the production come to the theatre’s new playhouse, which opened in 2007.
