DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS (GUGINO/DENNEHY) MOVES TO BROADWAY

FROM VARIETY
The GOODMAN THEATER revival of EUGENE O’NEILL’S DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS has booked its much discussed BROADWAY run, with the Chicago production transferring to the ST. JAMES THEATER in APRIL.
The Chicago cast — led by BRIAN DENNEHY, CARLA GUGINO and PABLO SCHREIBER – will return for the NEW YORK incarnation of the show, which is helmed by GOODMAN artistic director ROBERT FALLS.
BRIAN DENNEHY won a 2003 TONY for his performance in O’Neill’s LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT. The actor and director have collaborated on LONG DAY’S JOURNEY, other O’Neill plays THE ICEMAN COMETH, A TOUCH OF THE POET and HUGHIE, as well as on the GOODMAN production of DEATH OF A SALESMAN that moved to BROADWAY in 1999. The ARTHUR MILLER play won BRIAN DENNEHY a TONY as well.
DESIRE, first published in 1924, centres on the marriage between EPHRAIM CABOT (BRIAN DENNEHY) and his new young wife (CARLA GUGINO) , who has an affair with EPHRAIM’S son (PABLO SCHREIBER).
The play, which began performances at the GOODMAN in January and earned favorable press, runs through March 1 in Chicago.
The NEW YORK engagement of DESIRE will be a limited run, with exact length to be determined.
It begins previews at the ST. JAMES on APRIL 14.
