WILD RED HEADED WOMEN

Not everyone can be a redhead. It’s a very specific thing.
I should know. Though my hair is as blonde as it could possibly be, if I had never coloured it I would technically be a redhead.
Not the bold fire engine kind. More of an exceedingly light auburn or some specific shade of strawberry blonde.
You know how ROBERT REDFORD is considered to be a blond but has a lot of red in his hair regardless?
There we have it.
There’s no escaping it. I have porcelain skin and green eyes. Take me out in the sun and I do tan. But I freckle endlessly – all over the place.
That’s what hot Irish blood will get you…
I never liked red hair on me. Blonde is what I prefer…and I’m sticking with that. From my admittedly unique personal perspective, it is simply the most flattering look for me.
But I think red hair is compellingly gorgeous on other people. I have dated a few redheads and strawberry blonds. I would certainly have been interested in seeking out more of that persuasion. But men like that are incredibly rare.
There is nothing that looks worse than a woman attempting to be a redhead that is ill suited to that particular colour spectrum. Very few females look good as redheads.
But the ones that do can take full advantage of their unusual exoticism.
THE HUFFINGTON POST has a great slideshow and poll that showcases some celebrated women that went the red route.
I must confess that, aside from THE SEX & THE CITY actor, that I prefer every single woman on that list as a redhead. They may have had other looks that are flattering.
But the red tops them all.
Take my three favourite actors on this list: JULIA ROBERTS, NICOLE KIDMAN and KATE WINSLET.
NICOLE and KATE look stunning as blondes. JULIA is even more versatile. She looks great with dark hair as well. But the red hair (on all of them) was the ultimate achievement.
I would NEVER encourage most people to go red. It would be an absolute disaster on at least 75% of the population.
But if suits you, grab it and don’t let go. Make it your destiny.
It’s all just the luck of the draw.

Kate and Nicole should go back to being redheads.

Totally agree, my darling k. I think all three of them should.
KATE and NICOLE have generally been red or blonde (with very rare exceptions) on screen or off.
JULIA has always been far more experimental with her hair. So it’s unlikely that she will ever settle on one shade anyway. She likes being able to change on a consistent basis.
She was kind of red in DUPLICITY. I actually called her hair chestnut in my review. Sometimes the way specific scenes were lit she looked more auburn. But I could never be completely sure so I just left it the way it was.
But I think KATE and NICOLE currently enjoy being blonde.
The light hair looks lovely on them both. From my perspective, the red was their personal all time best.
But at the end of the day, their respective decisions are theirs to make alone…

I always wanted to be a redhead, and well…I have been one on occasion.
(My hair color history includes a strawberry blonde phase, a long period of red highlights and my current shade is a slightly dark auburn.)
But it would have been wonderful to have been born with red locks.
Kate’s best, boldest redhead performance is in the indie musical ROMANCE & CIGARETTES.
Have you seen it? If not, rent it. It’s not my favorite by a long shot, but Kate is great.

Patty, you are a redhead. Auburn may not be a true red (as in fire engine) but it really can’t be placed in any other category effectively.
And I bet it looks absolutely gorgeous on you.
That’s interesting. I think only the most fascinating exotic people can be redheads. So there you go…
You know, it’s a wonderful coincidence that you would bring ROMANCE & CIGARETTES up. I saw the clips and thought that it looked amazingly unconventional (in a good way).
I liked the idea of KATE playing a mesmerizingly sexy other woman – especially with JAMES GANDOLFINI in the mix. One of the other pluses was SUSAN SARANDON portraying his wife. SUSAN almost has that market cornered.
It would be just like the battle of the gloriously seductive red hot mamas. The fact that it’s a musical is the whipped cream on top of the sundae.
So I was all set…and then it never opened here.
*sigh*
But our tastes are so similar that this gives me hope.
Thank you for recommending it to me. I’ll be on the lookout for it.
