THE OSCARS’ MOST UNFORGETTABLE LOOKS
Yes, we’re counting down the days to MARCH 7 when the ACADEMY AWARDS will finally be televised.
You can expect a lot of OSCAR related articles at CP between now and then.
It’s that time of year…
I’ve said repeatedly that the majority of people shouldn’t experiment with fashion. You can only go so far before you hit the proverbial brick wall.
Most individuals don’t have the confidence, the imagination or the fearlessness to go out on that fragile limb.
But some people have such an amazing sense of what’s right for them that all of the risks pay off.
IN STYLE has a gallery of famous women who dressed memorably for the OSCARS – in ways both spectacular and horrific.
Though the five actors in this particular post took a lot of heat for these specific outfits, I think they all look fantastic. I’ll give them an incredible amount of credit.
From the top…
BARBRA STREISAND
ANGELINA JOLIE
DIANE KEATON
SHARON STONE
KIM BASINGER

yes the bjork bird was on a list. yay !!!!
I’ve said repeatedly that the majority of people shouldn’t experiment with fashion. You can only go so far before you hit the proverbial brick wall.
Most individuals don’t have the confidence, the imagination or the fearlessness to go out on that fragile limb.
but the celebs don’t really need imagination or fearlessness. uh these outfits are sort of advised/carefully chosen/researched…and they’re
usually worn in a safe area/special event.
nah i’m more impressed/wowed walking around trad rock town if i see someone wearing something cool or interesting as opposed to some celeb wears. that hits harder for me.
you know if i get off the the whatever version of train/rail we have in this town and i’m walking to the angelika theatre and i see someome wearing something even slightly off the beatne path, i’ll rate that over a celeb going crazy as special event. *ha*
now in the this geek’s view celebs really lose nothing if they dress a bit colourful/weird/memorable in an odd way. if people think it’s bad. good, they’re talking about you.
if it’s good, well that’s great too.
has anyone lost any career points because something they wore was consided too weird or whatever?
i doubt it.
yeah stuff like choosing bad projects/being seen as bad on a personal level, being seen as a bad actor.
yep, those can hurt your career.
don’t think popping up on a memorably odd dress list has ever hurt anyone career for even a day. just through a day…
and no jolie shouldn’t have made this list. not much of a surprise for circa that era of her life. and not much in the wow factor either.
look into my eyes. the geek has spoken.
jolie shouldn’t have been on this list. guess that was a joke. ha ha…
i’ve got the lame jokes rolling today. wearing computer lounging clothes as always.
and since we’re talking about clothes a bit, i’ll sneak this in…
moonshake (margaret era) second hand clothes…there was sooo much more to the 90′s than stupid grunge…

glimster, most celebrities do have stylists and people that pick their clothes for specific special occasions.
But, with those women above (with the exception of ANGELINA…) that was most definitely NOT the case in those particular circumstances. That was precisely the point that I was trying to make.
BARBRA’S outfit (see through pajama like lounge wear with bell bottoms – for THE OSCARS) was considered very risky. Even for the 60s. Any adviser that she had would definitely have tried to talk her out of it.
But she wore it anyway. (Um…YAY!!!)
I like a woman with stones.
DIANE KEATON has always been a brave iconoclastic soul artistically. That extends to her considerable fashion sense. God bless her for that. It’s one of the many reasons I adore her.
SHARON STONE has fabulous style. She’ll pair something commonplace with something bloody extraordinary and look like two million bucks. That’s a run of the mill white shirt that she’s wearing. I think I heard that it was actually her husband’s.
KIM BASINGER designed the white satin gown that she wore in that picture. The press at the time apparently put her through the ringer for that. But I think she looks incredible.
The five that I chose are all genuinely unique looks that are difficult to pull off successfully. They took some bravery on the part of the actors involved.
But (IMO) they’re all risks that paid off handsomely.
You are right, of course. Committing a fashion faux pas certainly isn’t in the same career damaging league as being a real jackass, choosing bad projects or being blatantly untalented.
But you don’t get too many free passes if you louse up in the fashion department either. If people regard you as a joke or hold you to ridicule a few times, it will take its toll in terms of your personal popularity and your street cred. That will have an effect on your livelihood.
Sooner or later.
Thanks for the video, baby. Very nice.
Right on the money. There definitely was much more to the 90s than grunge.
You’re absolutely right about that…

ah, sorry. i didn’t get that….
stone’s shirt I think I heard that it was actually her husband’s.
that got mentioned in the in style info thing…

really??? so people are more willing to forgive going to rehab for the 17th time than they are interesting fashion choices????
i was thinking that this if it’s gonna hurt maybe it would hurt via some stodgy person maybe not considering you for a role/not from the general public???
maybe it could hurt in preventing you from being seen as award worthy/serious. but would it it in loose points from the general public???
i think the general public wouldn’t care as much as long they liked the person, the roles/movies whomever did…
well,if what you’re saying is true, i need to see it because i’m not really believing it.
someone test this….

I have no idea what the general public thinks, glim.
Does the average person (that’s not employed or interested in the entertainment industry, modelling or design) even care about fashion? Probably not.
I was really talking about the press (in particular, which could conceivably have an effect on what the public thinks) and people in film that would be responsible for hiring someone for a job.
Plus there’s another thing to take into consideration.
Al of this may be subjective to a degree. But it still exists. Believe me.
There are interesting fashion choices. But they will be perceived as good or bad. Individuals may disagree. But there usually is a majority that lines up behind something.
You can be a risk taker and look incredible most of the time. That’s a fantastic thing. Definitely.
If you look like an idiot during events (as in all the time or usually), eventually many people will come to see you as a jackass and you will not be taken seriously.
Maybe not by the general public. But definitely by the powers that be.
There is no free lunch. All I’m sayin.
