THE MOST EGREGIOUS OSCAR SNUBS (2007 VERSION)

BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD

This is actually from last year. But still interesting enough…

EW asked their savvy and monumental readership which OSCAR snubs they were most offended by and they came up with some scorchers.

Here is what they said:

BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD
INTO THE WILD
ZODIAC
RUSSELL CROWE – 3:10 TO YUMA/AMERICAN GANGSTER

  1. i’m a fan of before the devil and not just for that scene at the beginning… šŸ˜‰

  2. BTDKYD was my #3 from last year.

It was right behind THERE WILL BE BLOOD and the absolutely splendid remake of SLEUTH.

PSH looking at HIMSELF in the mirror the whole time is completely hysterical.

BTDKYD is such a great, crackling, dark thriller. Has that deep thread of melancholy that runs right through it and all of that Shakespearean stuff (the plot twists, the high drama, THAT ENDING…).

Just superbly calculated. Goes like a bunch of dominos.

You can see all of it coming…and you just gasp as it unfolds before you.

Just a shimmeringly great take on modern noir. PSH and ETHAN HAWKE are superb. ALBERT FINNEY is unbelievable.

That’s a film that also got shafted royally at last year’s OSCARS. Should have been up for PICTURE, DIRECTOR, BEST ACTOR, BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, SCORE, ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY.

    And it got…NADA.

    Oh, well…

But we have such great taste. Don’t we, glim….?
