THE 25 BEST ‘WILL THEY OR WON’T THEY’ ROMANTIC TV PAIRINGS
When it comes to love, there is no rhyme or reason. Whatever works (easily or well) is the order of the day.
Some people wade impetuously into dark romantic waters and manage to extricate themselves at the proper time – virtually unscathed.
(Not really a big fan of that particular course of action. Most of the time at any rate. We all have our moments, after all.
But that’s just me…)
Others take their time, think it through thoroughly, make their move…and then jump.
Then there are individuals that know each other for years before they finally get together.
There’s no right or wrong in this high stakes game. People and circumstances are all over the map.
When your back is up against the wall, you either decide to take a chance or head for the hills.
Watching characters on television go through the trials and tribulations of the inevitable mating ritual can certainly be entertaining.
Our exceptionally awesome friends at EW have a list of 25 romantic TV pairings. In each of these scenarios, the sexual tension is off the charts. You end up tuning in regularly just to see how they’re…making out.
Here are my personal favourites…
DAVID ADDISON (BRUCE WILLIS) & MADELYN HAYES (CYBILL SHEPHERD) – MOONLIGHTING
MAGGIE O’CONNELL (JANINE TURNER) & JOEL FLEISCHMAN (ROB MORROW) – NORTHERN EXPOSURE
NILES CRANE (DAVID HYDE PIERCE) & DAPHNE MOON (JANE LEEVES) – FRASIER
I thought MAGGIE and JOEL on NE were fantastic. IMO JANINE TURNER is a gorgeous talented women who deserved to be a much bigger star.
I asked for the NE boxed set (with all of the eps) for Christmas one year. Big mistake. Though NE was an exceptional program, it’s wildly uneven.
When it’s great (and some of the eps are legendary – that take off on DOCTOR ZHIVAGO is in the Miranda Wilding Hall Of Fame) it’s incomparable. But a lot of it doesn’t hit the mark and is rather pedestrian.
MOONLIGHTING may very well be my favourite show of all time. I own the first three seasons.
Right before it went to straight to hell.
I fell in love with it through reruns, of course.
BRUCE was sexy as hell. He has never had a better role than DAVID ADDISON. His chemistry with CYBILL was scorching. The writing is brilliantly innovative.
It’s just an astoundingly witty, glamorous, hysterically amusing blend of stylish romance and breezy fun. MOONLIGHTING was a high water mark for television. Most series (past or present) couldn’t even touch it in terms of quality. It was an audacious miracle that pushed the envelope right into the ground.
