There are a handful of individuals on the net who know precisely what the OSCAR game is all about. Their projections and predictions are always solid. If they’re not 100% accurate, they come very, very close to that margin.

EW’S DAVE KARGER is one of those people.

Believe or not, it’s that portion of the year again. We are only weeks away from the beginning of the critical onslaught, the AFI list, the GOLDEN GLOBE nods…

It’s time.

He has broken his choices into two groups: front runners and possibilities.

At this point, I’ve seen a number of them: AN EDUCATION, THE INFORMANT, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, JULIE & JULIA, BRIGHT STAR, THE HURT LOCKER and A SERIOUS MAN.

The remainder of them (or the majority at least) will open in my home town before the end of December. I attend screenings of all of the main prospects annually. This year will be no exception.

It’s a little premature for me to support many of these films and performances. At this stage, they’re nothing but question marks.

But I can let you know what I’m leaning towards.

Here is a partial list of DAVE KARGER’S selections…
